About This Course

Data is everywhere! But data is only useful if it can tell us a story and provide insight into our world. In this course, learn how to be a data storyteller and translate raw, messy data into useful, beautiful, true insights.

This course will introduce the learner to the fundamentals of data storytelling. The course is broken down into four sections:

  • Data Storytelling - Learn why data storytelling is important...and how to identify bad and misleading storytelling.
  • Data Cleaning - Learn how to understand a data set, and to use common tools to turn a messy data set into something that you can analyze.
  • Data Interpretation - Learn how to transform a raw data set into something that tells a story, using common spreadsheet techniques.
  • Data Visualization - A picture tells a thousand words! Take your insights and display them as easy-to-understand charts.

This course is completely on demand. You can enroll, start, stop, complete it at any time. Learners who successfully pass can earn a free digital certificate.

Many thanks Data Visualization for All, School of Data, Open Election Data Initiative, European Data Science Academy, and Open Knowledge International for their contributions.
